Diktarstigen
Today we're taking you on a poetic journey to the central region of Norway, Innlandet. It is the county which was created on January 1, 2020 after the merger of Oppland and Hedmark. However, today's post poetic character is obviously not about the intricacies of the administrative division of Norway.
Near the western end of Innlandet lies the municipality which has been succinctly named Skjåk (pronounced nearly the same as English shock). Although it is inhabited by just over 2,000 inhabitants, it is the birthplace of some outstanding figures in history. One such person is Jan-Magnus Bruheim, a Norwegian poet who spent most of his life writing and also died there in 1988.
Because of the poet's achievements, Diktarstigen - a short footpath was laid out, which follows in Bruheim's steps. While walking along this picturesque path leading first along one side and then the other side of the rustling, meandering river Tora, you will get to know numerous examples of his works thanks to the plaques placed along the trail. Each of Bruheim's poems can be read in Norwegian, but there area also English, German and French translations available.
At the beginning of the trail, your gaze will wander toward the guesthouse with a characteristic meadow-covered roof. In the middle of the trip, you will cross the Tora River via a wooden bridge, which is a great place to take beautiful photos. If you're in the area, make a trip to Skjåk. Highly recommended!
